With all the star wars posters being praised ad being done very well, the first poster that I always remembered is the one for the controversial Phantom Menace. I always liked this poster because of how it places the characters. The only exception being Jar Jar’s placement. The focus is initially on the central characters of the sage such as Obi Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, R2 D2, and C-3PO. Plus putting focus on two characters that play a pivotal role in the prequels, Qui Gon Jinn and Padme. Alongside adding in the film’s central antagonist in the backgroud who’s supposed to be shrouded in mystery, despite his menacing face taking up most of the background. In a way, it is supposed to give off the feeling of ‘The Phantom Menace.’ He’s filling a void that is usually filled in by Darth Vader in most of the other Star Wars posters.
The texture of this poster is glossy, but in a way where it can show the shine of each character, as opposed to how previous films try to get the focus on the lightsaber while here it takes up little space. the pattern is similar to the Lord of the Rings posters in which they put the more important characters in the middle, the villain in the background, and main supporting characters up top, and less important ones on the side.
